Join us in celebration as Fulcrum Arts and Zebulon kick off the 2022 Fulcrum Festival with an evening of special performances by an international roster of artists, including CM von Hausswolff, Bethan Kellough, and Jimena Sarno. The event will also feature the live debut of †The Lord & Petra Haden†. These artists will also be collaborating on the upcoming freq_wave (Pacific; Los Angeles) installation in the 100-inch Hooker telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory, on view from September 23 to 25, 2022.
About the Artists
CM von Hausswolff has worked at the forefront of new media and art since the 1970s to create collaborative social experiences that enrich an understanding of culture—bringing a mature perspective to a young field. His interactive and experiential visual and sound work is exhibited in institutions such as Documenta (Germany), the Venice Biennale (Italy), Desert X (USA), the Istanbul Biennial (Turkey), the Moderna Museet (Sweden), Stadelijk Museum (Netherlands), and many other high profile international venues, and he is a recognized thought leader in global art. The focus of his practice is to address climate change through deep exploration; resulting in sonic and visual experiences that build deep empathy with the natural world.
†The Lord & Petra Haden† have recently collaborated on Devotional, a rapturous and heady offering of wordless vocalizations, droning guitars, and heaviness explored in unexpected and intoxicating ways. Inspirations came from deep listening to Indian classical music as well as a fascinating look at the chaotic and unbelievable life of Ma Anand Sheela and the Rajneesh community.
The Lord is Greg Anderson, an American musician and cofounder of Southern Lord Records. Anderson is the guitarist of stoner doom band Goatsnake and is also well known for his collaborations with Stephen O’Malley as part of Sunn 0))).
In a restlessly eclectic, wholly unique musical career that spans two-and-a-half decades, Petra Haden has established a singular reputation for creativity and versatility, and a unique niche that has allowed her to apply her multiple talents to a dazzlingly diverse array of music.
Bethan Kellough is a Los Angeles-based composer/sound artist from Scotland. Her music weaves together strings, electronics, and layered sound design, drawing from the extraordinary palette of sound produced by winds, waves, weather, and other environmental processes. Evolving out of her field recordings, her work combines musical and environmental sound-worlds into original compositions presented across album releases, installations, and multichannel works. Her debut release Aven (Touch, 2016) was listed in Rolling Stone’s “20 Best Avant Albums of 2016.” Her work has appeared internationally at Borealis Festival and Ekko Festival (Norway), MUMUTH (Austria), and Coaxial Arts Foundation (USA), among others.
Jimena Sarno is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Buenos Aires, Argentina. With a focus on spatial and sonic experience, she works across a range of media including installation, sound, video, text, and sculpture. Her work has appeared across the country in solo and group exhibitions at 18th Street Arts Center, Calico Gallery, Control Room, Fellows of Contemporary Art, Grand Central Art Center, Human Resources, LACE, The Luminary, MASS MoCA, The Mistake Room, the Museum of Latin American Art, PØST, San Diego Art Institute, Small Editions, UCI Contemporary Art Center, Visitor Welcome Center, and, in Spain, at Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea de Santiago De Compostela.
